Looking for your fathers or grandfathers Oldsmobile that has been lightly modified? MotoeXotica Classic Cars has the answer in this exquisite 1950 Oldsmobile 98 Deluxe Club Sedan or commonly referred to as a sedanette fastback Featuring an overhauled 324 CID Rocket V8 from a mid50s Oldsmobile. This example is one of only 11,989 sedanettes produced in 1950 and has benefitted from a complete nutandbolt restoration. Nineteenfifty was the pillared Club coupes final model year. This is simply one bad ass car that has undergone a nut & bolt transformation complete with fully engine rebuild, with a high quality build through out with attention to detail.

Made in General Motors Linden, New Jersey factory (VIN code L), the Maroon finish and chrome trim on this car is gorgeous and in overall excellent shape. Its body is straight and solid, its massive chrome bumpers shine brilliantly and form that frowning front end. The cars engine bay is extremely tidy, the cargo area looks great and the cars battery appears new. The massive external sun visor is a great periodcorrect accent.

This Olds wears Diamondback Classic wide whitewall radials topped with fullsized factory wheels covers. The tires and wheels all appear to be in very good order. At the end of February and beginning of March 2012, the car was converted to a faster, 12.7:1 steering ratio at Power Steering.com in Nixa, Missouri.

An overhauled 324 CID Rocket V8 with a fourbarrel carburetor from a mid1950s Oldsmobile replaces the cars original 303 CID Rocket. This 324 has the following new parts pistons, rings, bearings, valve guides and seats and the radiator has a new core. The engine breathes via Silverline dual exhausts. Backing this motor is GMs classic Turbo Hydramatic 400 threespeed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include vintage airconditioning, power steering and electric wipers.

Inside, the cars black interior is in overall excellent order. The front and rear bench seats are in excellent order, as is the matching carpet. The maroon headliner is in very good condition while the threespoke, black steering wheels condition matches that of the seats and carpet. The inner door panels and maroon, metal instrument panel, with its full array of gauges, are all in fantastic shape, with the horn inoperable. One of the more unique items is the Guide traffic light viewer mounted to the drivers left. Another unusual item is the gear quadrants on this car, LDNRP, LowDriveNeutralReversePark instead of the modern PRNDL or the earlier, PNDLR order. Additional aftermarket ancillary gauges a Sun oil pressure along with Stewart Warner coolant and battery dials are mounted beneath the instrument panel. Completing the interior is a factory, sixtube Super Deluxe AM radio with variable tone control and clock.

The 1950 Oldsmobile 98 repeated its 1948 precedent of previewing some of next years styling cues for the 88. The 98 was restyled after only two years. It was the first totally slabsided Oldsmobile and the first sedan with a wraparound rear window. Standard equipment included bumper guards, dual horns, parking lamps, dome light, rubber floor mats, aluminum sill plates, foam rubber seat cushions, chrome interior trim, lined luggage compartment and counterbalanced trunk lid. Deluxe 98 equipment included rear seat armrest, Deluxe electric clock, Deluxe steering wheel and horn button, special door trim and stainless steel wheel trim rings. Upholstery choices spanned nylon fabric, striped broadcloth or leather. Standard tire size was 7.6 by 15 inches.

In 1950, Oldsmobile stopped naming the 98 series and so from then through 1996, with the exception of 1957, when it was called the Starfire 98, and in 1961, when it was called the Classic 98, it was simply known as the Oldsmobile 98. Sales of the 98 Holiday nearly tripled to 8,263, approaching the 11,989 sold of the Club coupe. Given the rapidly growing popularity of the twodoor Holiday hardtop, 1950 was the last year for the pillared Club coupe. Total sales set yet another record of 106,220.

Throughout its long and rich history, Oldsmobile has been synonymous with prestige, style, advanced engineering, and good value. In particular, the 1950 98 series topped the Oldsmobile model line and clearly signified its owners upward mobility to the rest of the world If a boulevard cruiser would complete your collection, or if you are a Rocket car collector, you owe it to yourself to visit MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check out this 1950 Olds.

Coupe competition to this Olds in 1950 included Buicks Series 50 models, Chryslers New Yorker, Hudsons Super Eight, Mercurys Eight, Packards Deluxe Eight and Pontiacs Chieftain.

Documentation includes original 1950 technical service manual, a handwritten modification list, a laminated fuse block diagram with technical specifications on the other side and a Spring 2004 Vintage A/C catalog.
