A collectors dream!

The magnificent 1970 Iso Grifo Series II IR8 prototype featured here is finished in stunning Grigio Argento Metallizzato over a rich tan premium Italian leather interior. This particular Grifo (chassis number 336) was the prototype for the Series II IR8 Grifo models and was the first to feature covered headlamps and the 350ci/350hp V8 engine from the Chevrolet Corvette. This Series II prototype has several unique features that were installed by the factory and are still present today including an Iso Rivolta script on the dashboard and the Grifo emblem on the trunk lid.

336 Grifo prototype was first shown at the 1970 Turin Motor Show and used in promotional photographs and brochures. Originally, Grifo 336 was fnished in Glacier White, however, before leaving the factory in 1974 to its first retail purchaser, Griffo 336 was paitned Silver Gray as it appears today. Grifo 336 was then imported to Southern California to a private owner in San Francisco until the late 1980s when it was acquired by Ferrari of Los Gatos. In 1996 Grifo 336 was acquired by one of the founding members of the Iso-Bizzarrini Owners Club who cherished 336 until the spring of 2017. When Grifo 336 was acquired by Daniel Schmitt & Co. in 2017, it was mostly complete but in need of refurbishment. A full nut and bolt restoration was then commissioned with various parts and components sourced from across the globe. Over 1,000 man hours were invested to bring 336 back to show-quality standards. The 28-month restoration is documented with numerous photographs and over $150,000 in invoices.

Today, Grifo 336 presents as a freshly restored piece of Italian automotive history and is ready to be publicly shown, driven and enjoyed by its next caretaker. An excellent assortment of documentation accompanies this car including manual copies and technical data from the Iso-Bizzarrini Owners Club, a copy of the original build sheet, period Iso press photographs and even a photo of the car on display at the 1970 Motor Show. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire a freshly restored Italian exotic with outstanding documented provenance. We are extremely proud to offer this exceptional 1970 Iso Grifo Series II IR8 prototype to the most astute collector or investor who appreciates the rarity and provenance of this seldom seen Italian marque. Classic cars have proven to be among the most resilient and rewarding investments in recent years with the Historic Automobile Group Index (HAGI) jumping 39% in 2013, 16% in 2014 and 17% in 2015 while posting gains of 467% over the last 10 years. History of the Iso Grifo Series II IR8
The Iso Grifo was first introduced at the Iso Rivolta stand at the 1963 Turin Motor Show as the A3/L, with the L standing for Lusso or Luxury. The new limited production Grand Tourer was styled by the famous designer Giorgetto Guigiaro at Bertone while the mechanical elements were developed by Giotto Bizzarrini, the same genius that developed the 250 GTO for Ferrari. Reliable American V8 power was at the heart of every Grifo with both Ford and Chevrolet providing engines for the crisp Italian GT that still looks fresh today. In 1966, the Grifo was one of the fastest production cars in the world, which resulted in strong praise from automotive publications throughout the world. In 1970, Piero Rivolta decided that a styling update was needed and Grifo received a new front end treatment with folding covers over the headlights. This new Grifo was internally known as the Series II IR8 or GL Grifo, which was the first Grifo to feature a 350 horsepower engine. Today, interest in the Iso Rivolta marque is at its peak. The book Iso Rivolta: The Men, The Machines was first published in 1995 by Winston Goodfellow and successfully detailed the marques history. An excellent YouTube documentary series called The Iso Rivolta Chronicles was uploaded in the spring of 2017 and has since garnered several awards. There is no better proof of the modern appeal of the Iso Rivolta than when an Iso Grifo prototype sold at Scottsdale in 2018 by Gooding & Co. for a record $1.8 million USD. Isos perfect marriage of American V8 performance with Italian style and engineering is just one of the reasons why the model is cherished by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
