This example is one of 13,075 Cavalier Z24 Convertibles made in 1989 and we are pretty confident that only a handful of these are left in this type of near show room condition. This one was manufactured at GMs Lordstown, Ohio factory. After it left the assembly line, it was shipped to the St. Louis, Missouri Area Zone Office before arriving at Jim Butler Chevrolet right here in St. Louis, Missouri.

This car has never left the St. Louis area and we are selling this for a local friend who collects some really unique collector cars who purchased this car from the original owner who was a salesman for Chevrolet and is included withoriginal window sticker, original delivery docs and original owners manual with servicereceipts.

It left the factory with the following options 2.8L V6 engine; automatic transmission; airconditioning; AM/FM stereo with seek & scan, cassette deck, graphic equalizer, clock and extended range sound system; cruise control; tilt steering column; intermittent wipers; power trunk opener; and trunkmounted luggage carrier.

Dressed in Dark Red (code 79) with silver lower fascia, this cars paint and trim are in overall very good order though there are some minor blemishes on the hood and three minor dimples on the drivers side rear fender, just behind the drivers door. The black, vinyl, powerfolding top is in very good order. The cars glass panels are clear and intact, however the rear window on the convertible top has aged, as one should expect on a car thats nearly 30 years old. The cars lights are in great condition, including the quad, flushmounted headlights and unique taillights with their sixpanel design.

The cars bodywork is straight and solid, the colorkeyed bumpers are in very good order, the engine bay is quite tidy and the battery appears new. This Cavalier rolls on BFGoodrich Radial T/A blackwall tires, size 215/60R14 at all four corners and the tires surround factory alloy wheels. The radials are in excellent condition while the wheels are in very good order.

Under the hood is the Generals ubiquitous 2.8L V6 engine (code LB6) that first saw duty in the Xbodies. This unit has multiport fuel injection, an improvement on the older throttlebody induction previously used. Buttoned to this engine is a Turbo Hydramatic 125 threespeed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include airconditioning, power rackandpinion steering, power front disc and rear drum brakes, power locks, power windows, cruise control, intermittent wipers, tilt steering column and more.

Inside, the cars Black Sport Cloth interior is in overall excellent condition. The front bucket and rear bench seats are in excellent order, as is the matching carpet. The black, threespoke steering wheel looks great and the instrument panel, with its full instrumentation, is crackfree and very representational of the styling cues of the era. Even the inner door panels look fantastic and echo the rest of the interiors general theme. The center console looks fantastic, as does the floormounted shifter. There are cubbies in the console for spare change and other small items while there are spaces below the receiver to store music cassettes. Completing the interior is the aforementioned DelcoBose AM/FM stereo with cassette deck with search and repeat, radio station seek & scan, fiveband graphic equalizer, clock and extended range sound system.

In 1989, thesteering columnwas redesigned. The new selfaligning steering wheel was designed so as to reduce injuries in a collision by bending to conform to the drivers chest. Also, rear shoulder belts became standard on all models. RS and Z24 custom cloth seating received a new style of front bucket seats with integral headrests.

Competition to this Cavalier droptop in 1989 included convertibles from Chevrolets own Camaro, Chryslers LeBaron, Fords Mustang, Mazdas Miata, Nissans 240SX, Pontiacs Firebird and Toyotas Celica.
