Giorgio Lucchini was a small custom fabricator in Mantova, Italy. He produced a number of purpose built race cars including several prototypes that competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This particular example was imported from Europe in March of 2000, and has been owned since by a Northern California racer who has spent significant sums preparing and campaigning the car. Included among this has been club events at LSR with other FIA Sports Cars/Sports Racers in the 2L class.

Since 2008, the owner has spent over $45,000 to mechanically prepare the car, including a full rebuild of the 2.0 liter BMW S14 motor (similar to an E30 M3 engine), fabrication of a dry sump system, restoration of the chassis, rebuilt brake calipers, new wheel hubs, new fuel lines, and new clutch slave cylinder. The fuel cell and fire system were also renewed, along with the brake rotors, CV joints, front spindles, and front wishbones. The starter and alternator were also replaced, as were the tires. The engine is fresh with dyno time and a handful of shakedown laps at Sonoma Raceway. Much of this work was performed initiated by Robin Automotive, with the engine and dyno work done by Dave Vegher and final assembly and shakedown by Tim Barber at Sonoma Raceway.

Cosmetically, the car has good vintage racer cosmetics. The paint is glossy but does show some surface cracks, scratches, and chips. The chassis is clean and nicely polished while the seat upholstery shows some wear. The instruments and steering wheel are nice. The chassis and suspension are in very good condition, as is the motor, which has been freshly rebuilt.

This is a rare and cost-effective way to acquire a sports racer that is becoming eligible for an increasing number of vintage events. A well-sorted example with a freshly prepared motor by Robin Automotive. This is a unique car that is ready to hit the track, certainly the least expensive entrance into the FIA Group.
