This marvelous pre-war British racer is believed to be the earliest example of a Brooklands specification Riley 9. This car chassis 8046 was developed for competition by specialists Thompson & Taylor at the behest of the Riley works receiving numerous modifications including a competition-spec Works engine and lightweight aluminum body. Registered as GJ18 it was delivered in 1931 to well-known British driver Whitney Straight who campaigned it in numerous events including Brooklands and Shelsley Walsh. While owned by Brian Steadman in the late 1930s it was raced by the legendary Denis Jenks Jenkinson who documented his experiences in the July 1943 edition of Autocar. Subsequently restored this marvelous and lithe Riley has participated in prestigious events including Le Mans Classic Le Mans Legends and the 2009 Monterey Historics.
