This is a one family owned wagon from new with only 32XXX actual miles. While its not the Family Truckster portrayed in the National Lampoon films, it may be the next best thing. If youre looking for a third vehicle to do chores on your farm or estate or a third car to run errands, haul cargo and more, this may be a finalist. It has been a one family-owned wagon and it was one of 23,789 Caprice Estates made during 1989. This Chevrolet Caprice Classic Estate wagon was among the last of Chevys traditional B-body cars that debuted with the downsized 1977 models and before the lineup was revamped for 1991. Finished in Dark Mesa Brown with woodgrain side appliqus and a roof-mounted luggage rack, this cars paint and trim are in overall satisfactory order. There is a noticeable blemish left on the hood and another on the right rear quarter panel. Paint on the hood is showing its age. The wagons chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body, the cargo area is in decent order and the body is straight and solid. Rear-seat passengers received shoulder belts for the outboard positions and air conditioning was standard on all models. This Estate rolls on newer Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires, size 225/70R15 at all four corners. Each one is mounted to a steel wheel topped with a wire wheel cover. The tires are new while the wheel covers are in good, original order. There is a 25-gallon fuel tank. Horn is inop and A/C compressor does not engage. Under the hood is a 305 CID V-8 engine with throttle-body electronic fuel injection (code LO3). However, as a result of fuel injection, the cold weather starts, drivability, fuel economy, and emissions were all improved. Nineteen eighty-nine marked the first year of a fuel-injected V-8 engine. For 1989, this motor was updated with roller lifters and center bolt valve covers and gained five horsepower over previous years. Backing the engine is a Turbo Hydramatic 350 three-speed automatic transmission. Drivers convenience features are lengthy, as expected. The car comes with air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes with discs in front, cruise control, power windows, power locks and power sideview mirrors. There is also a rear defroster and a power rear window that can drop into a three-way tailgate. Inside, the brown cloth interior is in overall very good shape. The split front bench and rear bench seats are in very good order. The matching carpet and headliner are in similar condition. A two-spoke steering wheel frames a dashboard with minimal gauges and a bank of idiot lights. Front dash is faded and showing age. A column-mounted shift lever and a Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with cassette deck and a five-band graphic equalizer and Dolby noise reduction. The rear-facing third row seat is finished in vinyl. There are more woodgrain appliqus on the inner door panels and dashboard for added virtual warmth. Competition to this Chevrolet in 1989 included Buicks Estate Wagon, Fords LTD Country Squire Wagon, Mercurys Colony Park Wagon, Oldsmobiles Custom Cruiser Wagon and Pontiacs Safari Wagon. This is a fine example of the late 20th Century family cruiser, able to take large chunks of interstate highway in a single bite while hauling up to eight people.
