One of the most famous and most photographed Rolls-Royce motorcars of all time
This 1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Springfield St. Martin Brewster Town Car was purchased new by King C Gillette, inventor of the Gillette Razor and founder of the Gillette Safety Razor Company. It remained under Gillette family ownership until 1964 when it was purchased by the Shochitt family of New York with approximately 13,000 miles at that time. Under the Shochitt family ownership this car truly became a celebrity in its own right, appearing in numerous movies including The April Fools with Jack Lemmon, The Cotton Club, Putney Swope and numerous television commercials. It also won first in its class at the 1965 Madison Square Garden Autorama. It remains in incredibly original condition with its original Wilton Wool carpets, Mahogonhy inlays, and an assortment of tools, factory accessories, and spare wheel hubs that are truly impressive. A light patina naturally associated with a car of this age is evident though it has just undergone an extensive $25K mechanical service which included a new clutch, brakes, fuel tank system and Bijur lubrication system freshening. There are few Rolls-Royces in existence that can claim such provenance, documented history, and state of preservation such as this one. It is truly one of the most famous and most photographed of all time, and it is with great pleasure that we offer it. Classic cars have proven to be among the most resilient and rewarding investments in recent years with the Historic Automobile Group Index (HAGI) jumping 39% in 2013, 16% in 2014 and 17% in 2015 while posting gains of 467% over the last 10 years.
