Looking for your own Merry Oldsmobile? Come by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check out our top of the line 1959 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Fourdoor FlatTop Hardtop. This particular example was built at GMs Kansas City, Kansas factory. This is a very original car overall with a high quality respray that is show worthy.

Finished in Cardinal Red over Polaris White (code CLL), this cars paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. The wraparound windshield, backlight and other windows are all clear and intact while the cars lights present overall very well, too, with parking lights separating the quad headlights, Europeanstyle sideview mirrors on the fenders and the torpedolike taillamps incorporated into the tailfins as part of The Linear Look.

This car rolls on wide whitewall tires, American Classics, size P235/75R14 and those tires are wrapped around steel wheels topped by factory wheel covers that echo the cars jet age style. The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy, the battery looks fresh and the bumpers are a tight fit.

Beneath that expansive hood is a 394 CID Rocket V8 engine, in its first model year. It is mated to a Jetaway Hydramatic fourspeed automatic transmission and a 3.42:1 rear end. Driver convenience features include power steering, power brakes, power windows and a twoway power front seat.

Inside, the cars twotone gray cloth and ivory interior (code 386) is in overall very good condition. The bench seats are in good order; the rear even sports a folding center armrest. The black carpet and the gray and white instrument panel are in similar condition to the seats. The headliner show some wear but the white, twospoke steering wheel with its deep V center looks fantastic. The inner door panels, mirror glass and shifter are all in good condition. Completing the interior is a factory AM radio and clock, which still ticks

TheOldsmobile 98(sometimes spelledNinetyEightafter 1958) was Oldsmobilesfullsizeflagship model produced from 1940 until 1996. The name reflecting a "Series 90" fitted with an eightcylinder engine first appeared in 1941 and was used again after American consumer automobile production resumed postWorld War II.

For 1959, the Oldsmobile lineup was completely redesigned. However, unlike other GM makes, Oldsmobile continued to use a full perimeter frame, instead of the GM Xframe. The 98 shared its appearance with theOldsmobile 88. Oldsmobile stayed with its top series format by offering four body styles on an exclusive 126.3inch wheelbase. Standard equipment included oil filter, turn signals, air scoop brakes, Safety Spectrum speedometer, rocker panel moldings, special emblems, parking brake light, sponge vinyl headliner, deep twist carpeting, electric clock, wheel trim moldings, power steering, power brakes and JetawayHydramaticDrive. Interiors were selected from leather, Moroccean or cloth in different colors. The 394CID, the largest first generationRocketV8, was used from 1959 until 1964.

The 98 shared its General MotorsCbodyplatform withBuickandCadillac. As it was the topline Oldsmobile, the series had the most technologically advanced items available, such as theHydramaticautomatic transmission, theAutronic Eye, an automatic headlight dimmer andTwilight Sentinel(a feature that automatically turned the headlights on and off via a timer, as controlled by the driver), and the highestgrade interior and exterior trim.

In 1959, Oldsmobile models were completely redesigned with a rocket motif from front to rear, as the top of the front fenders had a chrome rocket, while the bodylength fins were shaped as rocket exhausts which culminated in a fintop taillight. The 1959 models also offered several roof treatments, such as the pillared sedan with a fastback rear window and the Holiday Sport Sedan, which was a flatroofed pillarless hardtop with wraparound front and rear glass. The 1959 models were marketed as "the linear look" and featured a bargraph speedometer which showed a green indicator through 35 miles per hour, then changed to orange until 65 miles per hour, then was red above that until the highest speed read by the speedometer, 120 miles per hour. Power windows were available on the 98 models, as were twospeed electric windshield wipers with electrically powered windshield washers.

Competition to this Oldsmobile in 1959 included Buicks Electra 225 sedan, Cadillacs Sedan de Ville, Chryslers Saratoga sedan, DeSotos Fireflite sedan, Lincolns Continental Mark IV Town Car and Mercurys Montclair sedan
