The public quickly began to snatch up any example they could find with the most common being the notchback coupe with an inline-6 under the hood. The K-Code was the most coveted performance variant- with a 289 V8 the K-Code put out 271hp and 312 lb-ft of torque and added $442.60 to the price of a Mustang with less high performance 260 V8. In light of this price difference only 13 231 out of the over 1.7 million Mustangs produced between 1964-1967 were K-Codes and even less were convertibles with the GT Equipment Group. At the time the GT Equipment Group featured unique badging dual exhausts larger anti-sway bars and disc brakes.This 1965 Mustang GT Convertible features not only the K-Code engine designation and the GT Equipment Group but also a dealer-installed Cobra Kit with a Tri-Power three carburetor set up and an aluminum intake which makes for an extra 43 Horsepower for a total of 314. Ordered new in Wimbledon White with a Red Pony interior and a Reverberator AM Radio this K-Code GT Convertible is a striking color combination with all the right options to make it one of the rarest and most desirable Mustangs to ever roll out of the Dearborn plant.After being put away in storage in 1981 this Mustang re-emerged and was furnished with an over 2 000 hour rotisserie restoration. Taking the body down to bare metal it was repainted in the factory shade of Wimbledon White with the red Deluxe Pony Interior. The color combination is set off by the polished wheels and stock-looking redline tires that make the car look as if it just rolled off the production line. Restored using the guidelines set out by the Mustang Club of America whenever something needed to be replaced New Old Stock parts were utilized as much as possible.
