With extremely low production, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Long Wheelbase is a rare automobile by any measure; they are the last of the separate-chassis cars from Crewe, England to be built. The Silver Cloud was the last Rolls-Royce manufactured that employed body-on-frame construction; the days of cars being hand crafted by artisans in Crewe are now just a fond memory. However, that care and craftsmanship distinguish them from every other car ever created; the coach-built touches epitomize the style and grace associated with a classic Rolls-Royce and exemplify it as a rolling sculpture. The 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Long Wheelbase Saloon featured here is finished in black with red pinstriping, with a beautiful grey leather interior surrounded by magnificent walnut woodwork throughout. This incredible motorcar has just been acquired from a long-term collector and only has 67,515 actual miles. Just released from a private collection and newly restored, this 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Long Wheelbase represents one of the nicest examples we have seen in years. The accompanying documentation on this investment grade Rolls-Royce includes the original toolkit, owners handbook, in addition to copies of the original chassis data card and corresponding build records. This particular car was constructed during a time when Rolls-Royce was building the worlds finest motorcars with care and craftsmanship evident in every detail and we are proud to offer it to the most astute collector, investor or enthusiast who appreciates the hand-assembled quality that helped to make Rolls-Royce one of the most prestigious motorcars ever constructed. HISTORY OF THE ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER CLOUD III Considered the pinnacle of the Silver Cloud series, the Silver Cloud III was unveiled in Paris during fall 1962. The most prominent changes were the inclusion of a four-headlamp layout. Additionally, the radiator grill was shortened, and the bonnet was given a slightly increased slope. An improved interior contributed to the 220lb loss of weight over the Silver Cloud II. The Crewe engineers were able to increase the power to weight ratio by 7% due to an increase in both the compression ratio and the size of the carburetors. The Silver Cloud III was the last Rolls-Royce model produced using body-on-frame construction, and the last example was finished by hand at the Crewe factory in 1966. Only 2,044 Silver Cloud IIIs were built during the short three-year production run, which was the lowest of all the Silver Cloud Series. The quality and craftsmanship of the Silver Cloud helps to elevate it from every other car ever built and showed the world how good Rolls-Royce was at producing an artistic masterpiece.
