*1994 Land Rover Defender*In 1983 Land Rover began production of their Defender model- an update of the famous Series vehicles- the Defender was intended to be the do it all car for the person who needed a vehicle to work on the farm one day and go into the city the next. The now iconic boxy design was based off of the older Series cars that were originally intended for military use but with improved all weather protection and a larger selection of wheelbase options and engines. Quickly the Defender transitioned from a vehicle for farmers and builders and became popular throughout the UK and Europe as a family hauler and status symbol. For the first 10 years Defenders were forbidden fruit in the United States but for a short four years Land Rover offered a North American Spec (NAS) version of the car with the same running gear as the contemporary Land Rover Discovery. The car was marketed as an upscale Jeep Wrangler and not many were imported stateside- the Defender became a sought after collector car almost immediately after it was discontinued on these shores in 1998.This 1994 Land Rover Defender 90 is painted in its original color of AA Yellow and was originally sold in Colorado. In 2016 the Defender was purchased by the owner of Outland Motors in Bend Oregon who elected to give the car a comprehensive recommissioning. To start he had numerous body panels stripped back to bare metal and repainted in the factory correct shade of AA Yellow. He then elected to add an aluminum hardtop painted in the same shade of yellow with a white roof and a Front Runner Outfitters roof rack with rear ladder. The diamond plate on the front of the car was powdercoated black and a Rovers North front bumper with a Warn Zeon winch was added for greater off road capability. On the inside the interior was improved with a Sony touch screen head unit with Apple CarPlay Bluetooth backup camera and a stereo with six speakers and a subwoofer. A keyless start system was added as were heated seats Alcantara headliner and added sound deadening with new carpets for a quieter ride.The work on the vehicle was not relegated to the visuals of the car- the top end of the motor was completely rebuilt and the gaskets belts and rear main seal were all replaced. The transmission was replaced with a new Ashcroft four-speed automatic sending power through a two speed transfer case with a new Ashcroft heavy duty rear differential. The suspension has been upgraded with a spacer lift Bilstein shocks and upgraded steering stabilizer track rods and drag links for a tighter steering feel.
