Crafted as a modern homage to the legendary Ford GT40 of the 1960s, this black beauty is a limited-production masterpiece with a story and specs that make it truly exceptional. A mighty 5.4-liter propels this American legend supercharged V8 engine, generating a breathtaking 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. With a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of just over 3 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph, its not just fast; its supercar fast. The 6-speed manual transmission puts control firmly in the hands of the driver, delivering a visceral driving experience. Ford calls it the American supercar reborn. The original model was built for the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans race, where it beat the worlds best racecars in endurance competition - finishing first, second, and third in 1966. Essential elements of the original - including the stunning low profile and mid-mounted American V-8 engine - continue in this latest interpretation of the classic, said J Mays, Fords vice president of design. Ford said every line and curve is a unique interpretation of the original. Though its similar in appearance, todays car is 18 inches longer and nearly 4 inches taller than the original racer. Body engineers had to find new techniques to shape the curvaceous body. Similar to the original Ford GT racers, the doors on the new GT are cut into the roof. The long front overhang is reminiscent of 1960s-era racecars, but the cowl and high-intensity-discharge headlights are distinctly modern. Functional cooling scoops on the leading edge of the rear quarter panels channel fresh air to the engine. An all-aluminum space frame consists of extrusions, castings, and stampings. Body panels are made of super-plastic-formed aluminum. A capless fuel-filler system is installed. Four-piston aluminum Brembo monoblock brake calipers work with cross-drilled and vented rotors. Flush-mounted windows help to re-create the fuselage shape of the original, and the coupe has cantilevered doors. Round taillights use indirect LED brake lamps. A brushed-magnesium tunnel contains the center-mounted fuel tank. This example is one of 238 finished in Mark II Black for the model year and was ordered without stripes. Features include HID headlights, fog lights, side air intakes, tinted windows, a vented hood, a front splitter, a rear diffuser, and a dual center-exit exhaust system. Inside, a driver-focused cockpit awaits, featuring supportive leather seats and an intuitively designed dashboard. The cockpit is trimmed in Ebony leather, and rubber mats cover bare aluminum floors. Manually adjustable seats were designed by Sparco and feature carbon-fiber shells with GT40-style ventilation grommets and harness slots. The central tunnel is topped by an aluminum console with rotary climate controls, and amenities include a McIntosh CD stereo, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, and push-button ignition. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is affixed to a tilting and telescoping column ahead of the GT40-inspired instrument array consisting of a central tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline and an offset 220-mph speedometer. Toggle-switch controls are positioned under additional gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, boost pressure, and fuel level. This Ford GT is more than a car; its a piece of American racing history. Born to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic
