In 2005 Ford revived the Shelby nameplate with a high-performance variant of the 5th generation Mustang. The Shelby American version of the Shelby GT was first made available on the 2014 model and included a unique set of exterior modifications which includes the front splitter conversion, a GT500 rear spoiler and quarter glass covers. It was equipped with a fiberglass hood to save weight and Le Mans stripes were added for some curb appeal.
